Abstract of Rubber still surprising     2010

Keltan

In the nineteen fifties Karl Ziegler and Giulio Natta independently developed a new class of catalyst system for the synthesis of a wide variety of polyolefins. Apart from polyethylene and polypropylene plastics, also elastomeric copolymers based on ethylene and propylene were invented. By polymerizing a non-conjugated diene along with ethylene and propylene, these elastomer products could be cured with traditional sulfur curing systems that had been established for natural rubber and synthetic rubbers such as SBR and BR. In the nineteen sixties DSM completed its proprietary Keltan
